On arrival we were allocated a 'nice room'. However, this proved to be untrue - due to no air conditioning - and a fridge that did not work. The air conditioning was centralised and old so it took only one window to be open in the hotel and it did not work. We did not have a plug for the sink and were asked to wash our clothes in a bowl. We asked for both and it was not until we complained to the rep that we received one - this being 4 days after our arrival.
It was our wedding anniversary out there but staff at the hotel forgot and it was not until we complained the day after that we received our complimentary fruit and wine. We did receive an apology with some flowers and a free meal. We were sent flowers from friends in the resort and they were not delivered until 2am the next morning.
The rooms were tatty - with the carpet being disgusting - full of stains The water pressure was not working properly which meant that we had to dance in and out of the water to avoid being frozen or burnt.
Some people were regular guests and for that we felt that they were treated differently to my husband and I. Some staff were falling over themselves to serve and spend time with them. We felt that we were not welcome at the hotel - by some staff and even some of the guests who are clearly used to having the hotel to themselves. The rep did her best and got us a new fridge after one week - but was not able to rectify the problem about the air con.
The bar attached to the hotel was pleasant enough with some staff making a real effort to make us feel welcome. The service and food were of a good quality and the entertainment was good fun with the staff making a good effort to keep us entertained.
Icmelar is a good resort - with some good bars - in particular The Red Lion and Tin Tin (round the back streets near the Turkish bath). If you want jewellery then can recommend Erciyes - owned by Umit. He is excellent and will make you want you want and is fair in his pricing. I have been to him 2 years running and have had jewellery valued at twice what we paid for it. Go to Icmelar it's a great place to go - especially now there is no hassle - but not the Efes Hotel.
