Abou Sofiane Hotel

The Abou Sofiane Hotel (formally Occidental Allegro Resort Abou Sofiane) is built in the Arabic style and is located in the heart of the best hotel zone in Hammam-Sousse, on one of the best beaches in the country.

The hotel has views of the bay and the sea. Nearby are the Golf Course Port El Kantoui with 36 holes and the famous Marina of Port El Kantaoui with its yachts and fishing boats.

There are three restaurants to choose from, lively bars, an evening show, and a disco. Guests can also enjoy the amenities at the neighbouring Allegro Resort Riviera. Excursions and tours to some of the fascinating surrounding sights can be arranged at reception.

"Holiday Was Very Reasonably Priced"

We stayed at this resort in July 2010. The holiday was very reasonably priced. The hotel is a nice size but in need of a bit of modernising. Rooms were very clean and our maid was very good at her job. Sometimes valuable items were left out and nothing was ever touched.

My husband and I were there with our daughter who is nearly 3 and for her there wasn't very much to do. For adults and older children it is probably better as they can make better use of the water sports and other activities or excursions on offer (for a price). One excursion organiser tried constantly to get the three of us to ride on a camel, insisting that a three year old was fine to go on a camel! There was a kids club but I didn't feel confident enough to leave my daughter there, even though the kids club staff were very good. There was a mini disco every night for the kiddies but it only lasted about 25 mins.

The location of this hotel is pretty much spot on, backing straight on to the beach but the beach could sometimes be a bit untidy and my daughter cut her foot on some glass one day (thankfully not too seriously). I have been on holidays where the beaches were swept daily but this didn't seem to be the case here. The food was ok. Sometimes the combination of food on offer was a bit random but there was so much to choose from so you would not go hungry. There are two other restaurants you can book in to for evening meal. The one where you dine overlooking the beach was very good and you got a Tunisian experience (although it only lasted 45 mins) but the restaurant by the pool was an utter waste of time and the food was awful and not what it should be. Caesar salad was simply a bit of green leaves with what I think was mozzarella and vinaigrette dressing. My husband enjoyed the cous cous royal but the beef dish I had consisted of three small pieces of beef, one carrot and one small potato. The ice cream dessert had sorbet instead of vanilla ice cream.

Over all the holiday was an enjoyable one. The weather never let us down and in the two weeks we were there, there was not a cloudy day. I would probably recommend it for couples of families with older children, but if you have smaller children expect a fair bit of doing nothing and just relaxing, which was what we wanted anyway.

"7th And Final Time, Until They Change It Back"

Having returned from our annual trip from a place we once called our second home (having been there 7 times already) I feel I must write a review this time to tell you to avoid this hotel at all costs until they change it back to what it used to be like.

The animation team what used to be soso awesome is animated and all credit to them try but their hands are tied by management.

Food as always been edible and varied this year is poor and rehashed.

Rooms are clean but very outdated now (Mr Sofiane take note).

The addition of 'Spinclub' (Italian based tour operated), have over run the hotel and the general opinion ruined it with everyone trying there hardest with management backing to make them welcome (profits first) regarding the way they are treated with regards to regular customers.

The overall holiday is what you make it. Like all businesses profit is not always the best policy looking after repeat business should never be overlooked if you have never been too the hotel you will not notice much difference if you visit regular then think again.

With regards to our stay and the number of meeting we had with management and Mr sofiane all they are interested in is filling the hotel to bursting point without the thought of holiday makers more people means more staff needed not cut back to staff to make more profit which is what has happened here.

"Staff Very Friendly & Go Out Of Their Way To Help"

Stayed here 9th-16th June 2010 first impressions great, lovely reception area as it says in the brochure rooms not as grand but clean and airy, maid service daily with towel and sheet change.

Staff very friendly and go out of their way to help, food was very good and varied. You could turn vegetarian with their dishes really well prepared. Plenty of bars to get soft and alcoholic drinks. we tipped the guy putting out the sunbeds 2 or 3 dinar a day and it was well worth it he put the sunbeds exactly where you wanted put the best covers on them and even brought a table and ash tray, pool area nice and large with plenty going on if you get tired of soaking up the sun, a short walk through the garden brings you to a fantastic beach again with plenty of sunbeds and all sorts of activities i.e. Para gliding, sailing boats, jet ski to name a few.

The animation team doubled up as the evening entertainment not professional but they did try hard. The included visit to the a la carte restaurant is well worth the visit food was good and the staff really look after you.

The hotel is within walking distance of the harbour either along the beach or by the road but its only 4 dinar in a taxi if you don't fancy the walk, it's well worth it to see the harbour with its boats the shops and sit and have a drink watching the water fountain.

All in all this was a great value for money holiday, and were planning to return next year with all the family.

"Hotel Was Very Friendly"

Just returned from this holiday and were a bit nervous of all the reports, and we have three daughters. It was one of the best places we have ever been the local people and staff were very friendly, and always laughing.

The hotel was very friendly to the point all holiday makers were talking to each other also. We loved the port and used the 'tuk tuk' (taxi) and that was scary but great fun.

We would recommend this holiday to anyone and we are fussy about where we stay with our children. Animation team were great very funny say hello to Timmy if you go. ENJOY.
