Arona Gran Hotel, Los Cristianos
This hotel is located on the beach, in the bay of Los Cristianos. The hotel is 12 miles away from Reina Sofia airport, 500 yards away from the centre of Los Cristianos and only 3 miles away from the golf course. The hotel was built in 1990 and renovated in 2000.
The arona Gran Hotel is now operated by the Spring Hoteles Group and offers Free Internet via WiFi in the reception area.
The hotel has 389 spacious twin bedded rooms, with private terrace and most with sea views. All rooms are fully equipped with air conditioning, minibar, direct dial telephone, television.

When you pull up outside the Arona Gran you think you have hit the jackpot, when you enter the Arona Gran you still think you have hit the jackpot, the reception is outstanding with vines and various plants hanging down from the balconies and you get a bucks fizz on arrival. Check in, rooms ok nothing to shout about, and then the crunch, the food edible just, if you stick to salads.
When we were there, there was a massive machine punching footings out the machine was right next to the pool, you can imagine the noise (complained got refund locally).
Outside the hotel is the market that opens once a week on a Sunday, on every other day it is frequented by drunks/druggies who accost you every time you walk to and from the hotel, very dodgy at night. I requested a meeting with the hotel director and explained my thoughts about his hotel and the surrounding area, he asked me if I would report the people living on the market to the local police because they would not listen to him.
Finally just along from the hotel on the so-called beach is a colony of wild cats that prowl and foul the area. In summing up the ARONA GRAN all I can say is "don't judge a book by looking at the cover!"

This was my 4th visit to this hotel.
It is very comfortable and clean, the pool areas are also very good with plenty of room for sunbathing. The only criticism I have is the that the food choice, taste and presentation has deteriorated in my last two visits, also staff are not as happy and friendly as they should be.
I would still recommend it.

This was our 4th visit to the Arona Gran over a period of 7 years and we feel it is improving each time. As the hotel is now part of the `Bitacora`, `Vulcano` group there is the attractive ability to `dine around` at all the hotels in the chain.
There was some room refurbishment going on but it did not affect our enjoyment of the hotel.
The choice of food has always been excellent. The rooms are of a good standard with some of the best views of any hotel we have ever stayed in. Many of the senior staff have worked there for many years which we feel is always a good sign.
We did not encounter any off-putting behaviour in the surrounding areas but then we did not feel the need to leave the hotel in the evenings as the entertainment facilities are so much improved from our previous visit.
