Hotel Hesperia Playa Dorada, Playa Blanca

The Hesperia Playa Dorada Hotel offers a fantastic location within Playa Blanca. The hotel offers entertainment nightly with shows suitable for all the family. Children have their own shows early in the evening, but are more than welcome to enjoy the full evening entertainment later.

Buffet restaurants for meals. The hotel has 466 rooms, some available with a sea view. Large pool and poolside service available daily. Hairdresser, tennis court, fitness centre, internet terminal, games room and shop are available.

"Not Recommended, Must Try Harder!"

We were really looking forward to this holiday but unfortunately this hotel is a poor example of holiday accommodation.

When we arrived at the reception at 13:30 in the afternoon we were asked to wait until nearly 15:00 before our room was ready. when you travel on a package deal you do not expect to have to stand around in your travelling clothes for another 90 minutes while the hotel tries to get a room available for you. If you can't check in until 15:00 then Thomson/Portland should not be delivering you to this hotel before you can check in! When you wake up at four in the morning and get to the Airport, fly to Lanzarote you don't expect to hang around in the heat of the day with your travelling clothes on! All you want, is your own room, so you can unpack freshen up and start your holiday.

The reception staff at this hotel are possibly the worst I've ever encountered. They can't even get you a taxi and are more interested in selling car hire to guests than they are in checking you in or out of the hotel. To be honest one word sums up the reception staff.....disgraceful.

Not recommended, must try harder!

"Ideal For Families & Couples"

This hotel offers an ideal location for exploring Playa Blanca. It is set in a quite location, but only a 5 minute walk from the town centre.

When we arrived we were asked to wait for about 30 minutes until our room was read. They provided us with a drink (coffee or small beer) during this waiting time. I noticed that other guests from other tour operators were treated to the same wait upon arrival.

The rooms are spacious with all the facilities that you would expect. The TV only had Eurosport and Sky News in English, I know you don't go on holiday to watch the tv, but it does help to kill an hour or two between getting back in the afternoon and going out in the evening!

This hotel has an enormous amount of car parking space available, so if you are thinking of hiring a car for your holiday you will have no problem parking it at the hotel absolutely free.

Meals are served in 2 restaurants; the 'Vulcan' restaurant is only open between March and October. The food is of a high standard, with plenty of variation. The catering is of the buffet style and can feel a little like a works canteen at breakfast. In the evening you get a waiter service for your drinks, but you still need to get your own food.

The entertainment in the hotel is of a mixed quality, parrot shows, disco, flamenco, ethnic dancing is the usual fare in this type of hotel and the Playa Dorada is no exception. The entertainment room fills up during the shows then empties as soon as the shows finish, don't exactly know where all the people came from or went to after the shows!

Pool bar and poolside food were waiter served, with a good friendly atmosphere.

The hotel offers internet access but is expensive to use. They charged 9 Euros in March 08 for 60 minutes access. You are better off using the terminals in the amusement arcade in the town centre as they only charge 1 euro for 15 minutes, which is normally enough time to check emails.

I would certainly go back to the Hesperia Playa Dorada.

"Delay In Getting Your Room Ready"

We had previously had a holiday at the H10 Bahia Blanca Rock Hotel in Playa Blanca in 2007 and while we were at the Blanca Rock, we spotted the Hesperia Playa Dorada and thought that it would make an excellent choice for our 2005 holiday. We were not disappointed, it really did live up to our expectations on everything.

The rooms are large with all the usual things you expect to be available, like a TV etc. The buffet breakfast was offered with plenty of choice available, absolutely something for everyone. In the evening the meals are also from the buffet, and again, so much choice. From April 1st, the second restaurant opened, the volcano, and to be honest, we preferred this to the main dining area, as it was less crowded.

The evening entertainment was of a reasonable quality, the usual parrot show, magician, flamenco shows etc. Everyone crowds the entertainment area in anticipation of the shows and then promptly leaves as soon as the shows have finished. A little disappointing, to have bars with no atmosphere, but this is common with bars in hotels in Spain and its islands.

The only strange thing was the wait when we arrived. Normally when you arrive on a package holiday, you check in, and go straight to your room, however we had to wait for an hour until our room was ready. The hotel provided us with a complementary coffee or small beer, but when you have been out of your house "on the road" for 7 hours, you don't want to sit around in your clothes for another hour waiting for a room that should be ready. Remember this was March when we checked in, and the hotel wasn't full. That was my only grumble, only a small one, but it needed to be "got off my chest".

Also note that the internet appears to be expensive at the hotel. You can get it cheaper in the amusement arcades in Playa Blanca, however the system the hotel operate is better. You buy 30 minutes or a 1 hour pass and you then log in and only consume your time while logged in. When you have finished you log out. You can do this as many times as you like, only consuming the actual minutes you are online. In the arcades you buy 30 minutes and need to use it all, at the same time. That's OK if you want to surf the net while all the amusement machines are banging away in the background, but if you just want to check your Email or online banking, then the hotel system is better, as you can go online everyday with your ticket!
