Hotel Polynesia

Hotel Polynesia in Benalmedana will give you a holiday experience that is straight from the South Seas! You'll need to keep reminding yourself that you are actually in Spain! Once you arrive at the Polynesia, you will be psychologically transported to the other side of the world.

You will soon discover the huge waterfall cascading into a lagoon and palm trees reaching for the sky and pools filled with turtles. The centrepiece at the Hotel Polynesia is the lagoon-style pool.

You won't go hungry at the Polynesia either. There is a great selection of food available. The main restaurant, 'Maeva' offers a international buffet and regular show-cooking. Add in a couple of additional eateries and we are sure that you won't be disappointed at this Benalmadena oasis.

"Food Was Really Nice"

We arrived at the transfer coach and had to wait almost an hour for other passengers to arrive. Transfers were approx £10 per person and there was four of us so if I went back, I would not book coach transfer but go by taxi which is around 27 euros.

As soon as we walked into the main reception area, we were amazed. It really has the wow factor. As there was a full coach of guests arriving at the same time, it took around half an hour to check in. The receptionist explained the hotel lay out and told us were the all inclusive bars and restaurants were. She also explained that as part of the all inclusive deal, we got to eat in each one of the two a la carte meals once during our seven night stay. We pre booked for the Ahima'a restaurant at the beginning of the week and then booked in at the Uru wok for the end of the week. We had all our other meals in the main restaurant, Maeva. The food was really nice and there was plenty of choice. Sometimes the food could be not as hot as it could of been but it wasn't cold. There is also the pool side snack bar where you can get food from throughout the day. Drinks were available from all the bars and so were tubs of ice cream for the kids.

Down at the beach club, which as only 5 minutes walk down the hill or a free bus ride, on topless Julia, drinks and ice cream were available but food is only available from may until mid September.

There were multiple pools and water features including sunbeds submerged in a pool which overlooked the sea. When we first arrived in our room, there was 1 glass, 1 cup, 1 towel and 1 pillow missing but within 5 minutes of calling down to reception, all the items were brought up to the room with sincere apologies.

In the bathroom, there is a hairdryer, 2 sinks, a large bath, a large shower, a toilet and a bidet. The remote control for the TV was available from reception for a deposit. Maid service every day was fantastic. We would go to breakfast and by the time we returned to our room, our beds were made, towels were changed and the room was cleaned.

We paid a deposit of 15 Euros per beach towel. You are given a token which you give to the assistant by the pool in exchange for a towel. When you have finished with towel you either exchange it for a fresh towel for the next day or for a token so that you don't have to carry towels around with you. You can also take the towels to the beach club. Me and my family are seriously thinking about booking again for next year. Too much to mention. A+

"Polynesia Hotel Was Just Excellent"

I spent a week with my partner in Hotel Polynesia in all inclusive. The Hotel was just excellent, when we arrived the breathtaking entrance hall just completely surprised me. Waterfalls, rain forest, wooden bridge and huge trees in the 7 storey building. Amazing.

First meet with the staff at the Reception/Information. Extremely friendly and helpful at all times. Efficient and quick service. The check-in within 5-8 minutes, because you need to fill a personal information sheet on the couch on the way to the hotel.(Thomson Rep will give you at the airport).

Room: Amazing, actually is a small apartment with huge balcony, we had a junior suite. It was really clean and welcoming. Nice modern decor, ambient music and beautiful lightings. Lots of storage and fully equipped kitchen also included ,microwave, kettle and toaster. Cleaning every day and totally perfect finish after that. Bathroom with shower and bathtub, towels. Staff always greet you everywhere you meet in the building friendly and helpful.

Food: We always went to the Main restaurant called "Maeva" is included in the all inclusive as such as "Tikka" sandwich bar, and "Piano bar". The staff were excellent. The selection is really colourful: Kids Corner, Vegetarian meals, Main meals (fish, chicken, beef, pork, turkey and seafood) various sides and sauces, Salad bar, Fruit Bar, Dessert Bar, Drinks are on table service, Homemade corner, Soups and Ice cream. Everything is well presented and delicious. Yes, I read many complain about the food. I have to say you should be really picky if you cannot find something for your taste. Ohh yes, and if the food is not enough hot for you, next to the Kids corner there is a Microwave!!! But you need to know in the Mediterranean countries, it's not common to overheat the food. And yes there is a big selection of typical British meals for those who cannot avoid these foods for a holiday :)

Programs: First of all there is a really nice animator team, so don't worry about kids. There is a Golf, Cinema room, Reading room, Disco, Spa and GYM (not included in all inclusive), Internet room, Bowling and Game room (with air hockey, pool table and so on) Obviously the Internet/WII room and the Game room is not free and not included in the all inclusive so you need some coins!! The pool just outside of the hotel is really good; sunbeds and pool side bar for your comfort.

Beach is 15 minutes walk. Thomson Rep: They were perfect, always helpful and on the top... Highly recommended!!!

"Pitty About The Food And Entertainment"

We travelled here on the 25th July for1 week all inclusive. The hotel is lovely with great facilities, the rooms are the best we have ever stayed in, the beds were a little too hard, the pool area is large with plenty of beds and great view, the beach club was disappointing the main pool was closed the day we went and they announced they're about to close the children's pool. The wave pool was too rough for our six year old son to go in a ring on his own and he was not allowed to sit in a ring with a parent which we found odd so the place to us was waste of time we did not go back.

The breakfast food at the Polynesia is good, the snack bar was fine the evening meals are awful, the themed restaurants gave us both food poisoning the Chinese was the worse, I was the only one to have rice and I was ill within 3 hours needless to say we ate out every night after the entertainment.

I researched this hotel and it was a bit hit and miss and decided to give it a go we should have listened to the reports about the food and entertainment we did have good time in hotel through the day but had to go out every night take plenty of taxi money!

"1st Impressions Is Absolutely Amazing"

The Hotel on 1st impressions is absolutely amazing, I just stood in the doorway gobsmacked.

We have never in our life seen such an amazing hotel, it is huge and very elaborate, you cannot fail to be impressed. Once in our room it was as amazing as we expected, we upgraded to a suite, they are exactly the same size as the junior suites it's just the balconies are slightly bigger than junior suites and with a Jacuzzi on it. It costs roughly £500 for the upgrade to suite with Jacuzzi depending on the exchange rate and worth every penny, well was to us. Hubby loved it he wants 1 at home now. Was a bit shocked it was a Jacuzzi even though the clue is in the name hahahahahah as we expected it to be a hot tub????? IT'S NOT HEATED AND BELIEVE ME WE FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY. But to its defence the sun does soon heat it up so that's why it's not.

Once settled in we had a wander around the hotel, the turtles are amazing and the bird cage too. The fountains light up at night in the foyer with different colours it is so beautiful. We found the food fantastic too a bit same old same old by the end of the 2 weeks but none the less very tasty, we found plenty to choose from every day. The lunches at the hotel are plentiful too; to be honest we only had lunch twice as we always had a full cooked breakfast so wasn't hungry.

The beach club is amazing too we were very impressed with it, all very clean and looks exactly like the brochure pictures. The foam party was fun there too. The entertainment in the evening is what u make it, The eagle, reptile and parrot shows were good 1st time round but is a bit much 2nd week as it's exactly the same show it's not varied at all. The adult men verses women later on is a right laugh, make sure you hold onto your bra's and trousers hahahahaha.

The animation team are amazing they work so hard all day and night, the dancing in the pool is fab and you all soon learn the dances. I will agree with another person who did a review recently on trip advisor it is really geared up for families which doesn't bother us we love to see kids playing and having fun, but it did bother some of the older guests, so you need to be very mindful of this before you book. No point complaining once your there.

The walk down to the beach club is fine even in blistering heat as long as you are reasonably fit, it takes about 7 mins to get to the beach club or 2 if you wait for the bus. Do not attempt going back up unless you are extremely fit it is very exhausting.
