Hotel Alicia, Cala Bona

Hotel Protur Alicia has been winning awards from almost the day it opened. Once you arrive, it's easy to see why. From the design of the hotel to the setting the Hotel Alicia delivers everytime. It's no surprise people come back year after year.

The Hotel Alicia, which is part of the Protur group, offers a fantastic location for you to enjoy your hard earned family holiday in Majorca.

The hotel is located by a sandy cove called Es Forti. There's a beach fairly close and itis only a short walk to the centre of Cala Egos where you'll find the marina.

"So Impressed With It Last Year"

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday at the Alicia. This is our second stay and we chose the hotel because we were so impressed with it last year. We weren't disappointed with our return visit. Everywhere was spotlessly clean with cleaners always busy, the food was varied with something to suit everyone. Admittedly not always hot but then a buffet serving hundreds is impossible to keep hot all the time. The chef was continually bringing out new supplies and there was plenty of food for those people who wanted to pile their plates up.

Our room was just a few doors away from last year's and was a little bigger with a wonderful sea view with the sea being just a stone's throw away. Lovely to lie on the bed and not only hear the sea crashing against the rocks but to watch it as well as the balcony has a see-through panel! The entertainment was as you would expect really. Some nights very good, others not so. We preferred to venture down the road and sit at one of the bars enjoying the local musical talents on offer and soaking up the atmosphere.

We went a little later this year and although it was very hot and humid the first 10 days or so it started to cool down a little after that. The locals told us that it hadn't been so hot and humid for a long while and even they were struggling with it.

The one major gripe I would have with the hotel this year is that the air con was turned off between 2am and 6am (approx). As an asthma sufferer, I was appalled by this as I had to endure night after night of asthma attacks which ruined my stay. I have not had an asthma attack for 4 years and so you can imagine how I felt. I would have expected the hotel to keep the air con working as the locals themselves pointed out that it was a lot more humid than normal. It resulted in us having to call out a doctor who charged 85 Euros for the 10 minutes he was with me (which I couldn't claim back on my insurance as I had an excess I wasn't aware of - please be aware of this when arranging insurance!) and hiring a fan for 18 Euros a week.

We used local buses to get about which were very cheap and I would recommend the bus to Sineu market which was about 10 Euros return as opposed to Thomson's 24 Euros. In fact, before booking any trips, just look at the local buses because they are so much cheaper (timetable and prices in hotel). You won't get the running commentary or additional stops for wine-tasting etc but if you just want to get from A to B they are ideal for a couple of Euros.

There are loads of places to eat if you fancy a change and we recommend Melis. Always friendly and eager to please. If it is a beach you are after you can just walk towards Cala Millor where you will find plenty of space. The walk itself is very pleasant with loads of cafes to stop for a coffee and shops too, and we tended to go for a stroll along there most evenings to walk off our evening meal.

Regardless of the asthma filled nights, we had a lovely stay this year but I think if we return we will go at a time when the weather is not so hot. I never want to go through that again. But I would be very aware of that if you are an asthma sufferer.

"Returned From The Alicia & It Was Lovely"

We have just returned from the Alicia & it was lovely. We arrived late evening and a meal had been set out for us. There was no problem swapping one of the meat based meals for a veggie option. It wasn't until the next morning that we realised the full beauty of the location. We had opted for a sea view room (at no extra cost as most of the rooms are at this side)and the view was breathtaking. Our balcony was yards from the beach with no obstruction to the view.

The hotel is relatively small & was quiet because the season was not in full swing yet. Staff were mostly friendly & very helpful. We went with our 10 year old & she had a great time. Her favourites were the activities organised by Femke, who is brilliant. A lot of the clientele were elderly, but on the whole a lively bunch and we didn't mind that. This may change in the summer, there may be more families.

The food was of a high standard, I have stayed in many 4 & 5 star hotels & this was one of the better examples of buffet style food I have experienced.

The evening entertainment was variable, we saw an acrobatic act which was amazing, but some of the singers were not to our taste. There are lots of bars in Cala Bona & Cala Millor within easy walking distance, which cater to most tastes.

The room was lovely, as with the rest of the hotel it was spotlessly clean, cool and well appointed.

It was a bit cold for the outdoor pool, our daughter braved it once because the indoor pool was very hot. Both pools were nice & there were plenty of free sunbeds around the pool on hot days, because the older crowd preferred the solarium.

"Definitely Recommend This Hotel"

I stayed here July 06 and what can I say except wow!

Travelled alone for a week of relaxation after a long illness and everyone made me feel very welcome, I always felt safe both in the hotel and alone out in the resort.

The food was wonderful and although I travelled during the school holidays the hotel was never rowdy. Cleanliness was fantastic and rooms were tidied daily including towel and linen change.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quality, relaxing holiday. In fact I've already booked again for this year (but this time I'm letting my other half come along!).
